♥ Step-by-Step Tutorial: Creating 3D Embroidered Roses using Woven Picot Stitch

Why not explore the captivating world of three-dimensional embroidery by creating a stunning rose using the woven picot stitch technique?
I have a short tutorial ready for you. Let's dive right in and bring this beautiful project to life!

Start by creating a narrow and elongated petal using the 3 spoke picot stitch.
This petal will serve as the center bud. In the previous tutorial, I have explained how to create picot stitch petals, so I won't repeat it here.

Let's begin the weaving process. The needle will pass under two threads in one direction and under one thread in the other direction. Continue weaving back and forth, working downwards until you reach the bottom of the fabric.

When you have completed weaving the picot rose leaf, remove the pin. To create a bud, gently curl and twist the woven leaf around itself, forming a compact shape similar to the reference image. Secure it in place by making small stitches and attach the tip of the rose leaf to the fabric.

In this step, we will create five picot rose petals around the central bud in a circular arrangement.
We will make 5-spoke picot petals. Let's begin by creating the "warp" threads for your weaving.

Now you have five threads for weaving.
Start weaving by passing the needle under the first two threads, over the third thread, and under the fourth and fifth threads in the first row. In the next row, slide the needle over the first, third, and fifth threads.

Continue expanding the rose by making larger petals. To achieve wider petals, increase the distance at the base of the pin and add more support threads, ensuring they are always an odd number.
In the final row, create larger petals and arrange them so that they partially overlap each other.

Remember to use the wrong side of the needle to prevent the tip from getting caught between the layers of the embroidery thread, allowing it to pass smoothly through the threads.

The finished rose looks just like the one in the picture. If you'd like, you can add one more row to the rose in your own projects and continue with larger petals. Don't hesitate to experiment and try different variations.
